As a newborn photographer, I take your baby's safety very seriously! Some of the poses you see in my newborn gallery are composites, the baby was never let go of! That's what Photoshop is for! (No, babies can not balance their heads on their hands!) Even, when the baby is let go of briefly, for example, when wrapped and on a fur on the floor, I still have an assistant sitting right next to the baby at all times! I'm very slow and deliberate when wrapping and dressing a baby - probably more than their own parents are. But, I feel I've been entrusted with the most precious possession in this world, so I must take utmost care with it!
In that vein of thought, when I saw this article, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/05/car-seat-safety-holly-wagner_n_6255106.html, I felt the need to share it with not only my new parent clients, but anyone with a little one. I know, personally, I always buckled my son. But, I also know that I didn't always do it properly. There where times we would move the car seat from one car to the other and in our hurry, I probably didn't tighten the belt like I should have. Or, when he was wearing a thick coat, I may have unbuckled that top latch to let him get more comfortable. I am very fortunate that nothing ever came of my carelessness. (In my defense, that was almost 25 years ago and we've learned a lot since then.)
I pray none of my clients, friends and family are ever in an accident... but that's why they are called accidents, no one expects the worst. So, please take a few minutes to read one Mom's story and take her advice and "Make sure they (you) understand the importance of getting this right"... "We know that car seats and booster seats are not always as simple as they may seem. In fact, many people are shocked to learn that three out of four car seats in this country are not installed correctly. That’s why raising awareness of this issue is so important. "
