It was cold out, again, so we decided to do this session indoors.  I set up in my home and we used two different backdrops.  We went simple, and just used some greenery and a big balloon and the donuts and banner, and a couple other simple props.

Enjoy a few of Camp's one year session portraits:

Hannah + Logan - Beautiful Flower Blooming Wedding at the Gheen's Foundation Lodge https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2017/7/hannah-logan---beautiful-flower-blooming-wedding-at-the-gheens-foundation-lodge It's not often that I will shoot a wedding any more.  But, when my cousin's daughter asked me to photograph her wedding, (and my son and daughter-in-law and a few other relatives were to be in it) I said yes! Off-and-on rain was predicted, but it stayed away and we were able to capture some gorgeous portraits for her! The flowers were just starting to bloom, and the colors of their wedding were so perfect with the surroundings! I hope you enjoy some of the highlights of the day!

Haley - Borden High Senior Portraits https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2017/1/haley---borden-high-senior-portraits Today I'm featuring one of my senior girls from this past year, Haley! I photographed her senior session in the fall. It was actually in September, so I was surprised that we we're able to catch a little bit of tree color already. Haley attends Borden High where she plays softball.  She will be furthering her softball career next year when she goes to the University of Southern Indiana! Haley loves to read so I made sure to includ a book themed portrait.

We started off in Downtown Louisville, where we got a photos at a few of my favorite spots, and then we drove over to Blackacre Farm to finish up. And there we took some sunset photos in the tall grass. But, along the way I remembered a place I liked and she was game to stop at Papa John's Park for a few shots, which ended up being some of my favorites! I think you'll love them too!

Class of 2017 - It's not too late to book a spring session! Class of 2018 - I'm looking for outgoing dreamers, planners and go-getters who love to have their picture taken to represent "Angie's Angels"! There are many perks that will come for anyone that joins! In addition to your senior session, there will be themed, fashion, and destination group shoots! Message me on IG @AHurstPhotography or via text at 502-550-1743 or fill out the contact form here, http://www.ahurstphotography.com/book-a-session- for more info!!!

New Product! - Senior Lookbook! https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2016/8/new-product---senior-lookbook I've featured the wonderful thick page, leather bound, albums I offer before. But, I've been thinking I need something more like a magazine for my seniors to show off their photos and have their friends sign.  I'm calling them a 'Lookbook', even though that may not be the technical term for them.  :)

The sample I made is 12 pages, (24 sides) sized 9" x 6", with 30 photos.  I left room on the edges of a lot of pages for friends to sign and write their well-wishes.  The paper is thicker than a magazine and has a nice matte look to it.

The Lookbook is a perfect way to show your senior photos! It could even make a great guestbook at your graduation party too!

Prices start at $80 for the first book, additional books are only $65. (they'd make a great gift for grandparents!)

Beautiful Baby A turns 1 in Louisville https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2016/7/beautiful-baby-a-turns-1-in-louisville Pink and teal were the colors of the day for Baby A's 1 year session!  She was one of the few baby's I've had at that age that wasn't scared of my camera, and was all smiles!  Mom came to me with a couple ideas and we were able to make her visions come to life!  She even shed a few tears when looking at her proofs, and had such a hard time deciding which to get, they ended up purchasing an album with over 40 photos in it! Here are a few of her favorites, some of the ones she had made into prints!

Well, it's been around 6-months and she's sitting independently now! S,  last weekend we had her milestone session and she did so good!  She even let us put her in 4 different outfits and was still willing to cooperate. lol!  I love that I was able to capture her different expressions and beauty!  Take a look:

Summer Maternity Session At Cherokee Park -- Louisville, KY Photographer https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2016/2/summer-maternity-session-at-cherokee-park----louisville-ky-photographer I think a lot of women may opt to save their money for newborn portraits instead of getting their pregnancy portraits taken. But, I love maternity photography! It's such a special time in their lives, and something we all wish we could remember better! I try to encourage expectant moms to just do it! I'm afraid, if they are like me and have a horrible memory, they may regret it later when they don't.  :)

Savannah and I met at Cherokee Park one fairly hot evening this past summer.  We started out at the creek, but on my drive in I had noticed a small patch of tall yellow flowers just a few miles up the road. She was happy to follow me there on our way to the field that we finished up in.  I was so glad we stopped! The flowers perfectly framed her and her husband and this session turned out to be one of my favorite pregnancy sessions of last year!

What A One Year Old Session Looks Like! {Louisville Baby Photographer} https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2016/2/what-a-one-year-old-session-looks-like-louisville-baby-photographer If you are wondering if you should schedule a photo session when your baby turns one, today's blog post should make you say, 'definetely!' Henry is another of my Baby Plan Graduates, and like all one year-olds, he was busy! I never spend more than an hour with them at this age -- they just don't have the attention span for it. During our hour, I used two different backdrops and added the banner and other props to one of them, so we really had 3 looks.  And that worked perfectly since mom had picked out 3 outfits.

I try to let them move enough so they don't get frustrated, and I try to give them lots of different things to do - stand, sit on floor, sit in bucket, stand by bucket, sit on this little chair, hold this, hold that, I turn on music and sing, and Dad did a lot, a whole, whole, lot, of picking him up and putting him back on the backdrop.  We all end up sweaty, but how many times will he turn one?  It's so worth it!

Product Spotlight - Custom Designed Albums {Louisville Senior and Newborn Photographer} https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2016/2/product-spotlight---custom-designed-albums-louisville-senior-and-newborn-photographer I'm trying to find products that I love and would want for myself.  Something I've wanted to make for a while is an album.  I finally designed one last week and I love it so much!  I decided to use this one as my "senior girls" example.  I wish everyone could hold it and feel the quality!  I chose a distressed leather, but I will be offering more than 25 different leathers to choose from.  Or you may prefer a linen cover, or a custom image cover.  So, many options!

I purchased an 8x8 album with thin pages, which are still thick IMO, and a total of 20 sides.

I didn't know I would enjoy designing it so much! I wanted it to look classic, but thought some cute embellishments, colors and quotes really added to the look that I was going for.

If you decide an album is for you, I'll custom design it, using any preferred colors and quotes and you will be able to make any adjustments before I send it off to be printed.

If you'd like to hold it for yourself, so you can see and feel the quality, just ask!  I think every senior needs one, and they would also be a wonderful keepsake to commemorate your baby's first year with photos from every first year session!

Take a look! Class of 2016, are you in my example album?

Baby Plan Graduate - Baby R - Louisville Baby Photographer https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2016/1/baby-plan-graduate---babyr---louisville-baby-photographer I met Baby R for the first time at his 6 month session.  He did so good, for about 30 minutes, and then was done! lol! Fortunately, we worked quickly and got some of the best smiles from him! His big blue eyes are just amazing with his dark hair! I have a feeling that combo is going to make the girls swoon in a few years!

As one of my Baby Plan graduates, I'm going to miss seeing him every few months, but look forward to the bounds he will make between our annual sessions.  Remember, you don't necessarily have to start with a newborn or maternity session...  you can make your plan for 6, 9, and 12 months...  or sitter, walker and 18 months...  it's up to you! Contact me, even if your baby has arrived, and let's make a schedule that works for you!

Bailee - Silver Creek High Senior 2016 https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2016/1/bailee---silver-creek-high-senior-2016 Bailee was one of the first 'class of 2016' seniors I photographed this season.  It was actually a very hot day in July that we took these, but that turned out to be a good thing because we were able to let her get in the creek and splash around a little!

Bailee plays volleyball for the Silver Creek Dragons and I loved the looks she chose for her senior photos!  Solids work very well for photos and she had a nice mixture of brights and neutrals.  I always recommend as accessory or two, (or ten, lol!) and the hat she brought was perfect as we could add it or take it away to change the look. Plus, it gives you something to with your hands!

We started out in downtown Louisville and finished up at Cherokee Park.  Her session lasted about 3 1/2 hours, but I think we could have spent longer, if darkness hadn't come upon us!

Silver Creek High is one of the schools I'm looking to find a representative for my '2017 team Angie'! If you're interested in earning free prints, contact me for an application!

Baby L's Newborn Session https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2015/10/baby-ls-newborn-session I just finished editing this gorgeous baby girl's newborn session! She came to visit me at my home when she was just 11 days old, and she was so easy to work with!  By coming to me, I can usually do more with them because I have all my props in my office and if I forget something, I just run and grab it; not to mention, I just generally have more available because I don't have to 'pack light'. :)  Starting in January I will even be discounting my newborn sessions if you come to me due to all the prep and hauling that I have to do to have everything I need at a newborn session on-location.

This is one of my, if not my very favorite -- and what's funny is I don't normally photograph newborns with their eyes open because many times their eye muscles aren't strong enough and one may wander, or a lot of them scream when I put them down awake.  But, this little gal was calm and focused right on me.  I just love how it turned out!

And, here's one I'd been dying to do for a while... love how it turned out!

And, this one I couldn't have done if I'd gone to them! Dad asked when they arrived for something "geeky". I came up with this and fortunately had the props in my office!

A few more of my favorites from her session....

Up, Up and Away! The White Family - Bowman Field Louisville, KY https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2015/7/up-up-and-away-the-white-family---bowman-field-louisville-ky This was such a fun shoot at Bowman Airfield!  We had rescheduled multiple times due to rain, and even this day it was misting on my way to the location, but fortunately the rain held off and we ended up getting some great photos, with a dramatic feel due to it being overcast! The kids even loved it! And, I happened to have an aviator hat and a toy plane in my prop collection, and they worked perfectly to fit the look and keep the kids busy!  And, I learned a little history while there... Bowman Field is Kentucky's first commercial airport and is the oldest continually operating commercial airfield in North America! Wow! I think these photos almost have that historic, or at least nostalgic, look to them!

This may be my favorite! I love that she's looking off to see either see someone go, or dream of where she's off to!

Walden School Class of 2015 (Louisville, KY) https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2015/4/walden-school-class-of-2015-louisville-ky I'm so behind on blogging!  I actually shot Hannah's senior photos on a fairly warm (for winter) day back in January.  We had so much fun! We started on the University of Louisville campus and then went downtown to Market Street and finally to the Highlands area.  She brought a friend who helped me get some "real" smiles out of her and I also put her to work holding my flash and/or reflector when needed.  :)  I'm so happy for this class of 2015 graduate and can't wait to see what she does in the future!

Newborn Safety During A Photo Shoot, And In Everyday Life https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2014/12/newborn-safety-during-a-shoot-and-in-everyday-life As a newborn photographer, I take your baby's safety very seriously! Some of the poses you see in my newborn gallery are composites, the baby was never let go of! That's what Photoshop is for! (No, babies can not balance their heads on their hands!) Even, when the baby is let go of briefly, for example, when wrapped and on a fur on the floor, I still have an assistant sitting right next to the baby at all times! I'm very slow and deliberate when wrapping and dressing a baby - probably more than their own parents are. But, I feel I've been entrusted with the most precious possession in this world, so I must take utmost care with it!

In that vein of thought, when I saw this article, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/05/car-seat-safety-holly-wagner_n_6255106.html, I felt the need to share it with not only my new parent clients, but anyone with a little one.  I know, personally, I always buckled my son. But, I also know that I didn't always do it properly.  There where times we would move the car seat from one car to the other and in our hurry, I probably didn't tighten the belt like I should have.  Or, when he was wearing a thick coat, I may have unbuckled that top latch to let him get more comfortable.  I am very fortunate that nothing ever came of my carelessness.  (In my defense, that was almost 25 years ago and we've learned a lot since then.)

I pray none of my clients, friends and family are ever in an accident...  but that's why they are called accidents, no one expects the worst.  So, please take a few minutes to read one Mom's story and take her advice and "Make sure they (you) understand the importance of getting this right"... "We know that car seats and booster seats are not always as simple as they may seem. In fact, many people are shocked to learn that three out of four car seats in this country are not installed correctly. That’s why raising awareness of this issue is so important. "

Where should I get my prints made? https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2014/12/where-should-i-get-my-prints-made

I know in this digital era most people prefer to get digital files and then print them themselves, whether it be at home or somewhere else.  That said, not all print quality is the same and I want your photos to look as great on paper as they do on your phone/computer monitor.  So, here are a few things to keep in mind when deciding where to go for your prints.

When I edit your photos I do so on a monitor that I calibrate at least every other week. Which means the colors on my screen should be the colors that get printed... if you use a reputable printer that also calibrates regularly!

When you order from my website, the prints come from a professional printing company that color checks and then calibrates daily. Most local printers do not do that. Case-in-point, the picture of the photo attached here. In a pinch I had the photo on the right printed at Wal-Mart. I was so upset when I received it. I wasn't sure if my monitor was off and was showing the colors darker, thus blowing the color out or if it was Wal-Mart. So, I then I had it printed through my professional print company (the photo on the left) and it came to me looking just like I wanted it to!

So please remember, cheaper may not be better. You spent your time and money to get beautiful photos, get them printed so they look the way they were intended to look up on your walls!

I could tell they really loved being together just from the short time we spent together -- and I think it really comes through in their pictures! Here are a few of my favorites from our adventures at Farmington. And, the trees this day were just perfect, gorgeous autumn colors!

In fact she's absolutely perfect! I can't wait to see how much she's changed already when I do an extended family shoot for them tomorrow!

We had a great time doing his session at Bernheim Forest...  even got a little lost on a trail that we took in error! LOL!
He is not real sure what he is doing after school as he has many aspirations. He's considering becoming a Firefighter, but right now he is all about his clothes, shoes, playing guitar, singing, music and playing basketball.

She's very active now, but we were able to get a few photos with baby and big sister and also with their beautiful momma!

Jim & Belinda's Louisville Wedding https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2014/4/jim-belindas-louisville-wedding My husband's uncle was married in an intimate ceremony in Louisville a few weeks ago.  The wedding was in Fairdale with a small group sharing dinner with them at the Tumbleweed on River Road that overlooks the Ohio River.   I took some photos of their day as a gift for them, so this wasn't my normal formal shoot, but I still think it captures the day nicely! And, unfortunately, the weather was cold and rainy so we were only able to get a couple outdoors.

Snow Senior Session https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2014/2/snow-senior-session I've had this snow session in my mind for a while.  So when Liz asked if I'd do her senior photos, I said 'of course'...  but asked if she would do me a favor and do a session just for me! She was game and her mother was so sweet she even found her the perfect dress for my vision!! The results are exactly what I wanted! See for yourself my 'snow princess senior session'! :)

A. Hurst Photography is on Instagram! https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2013/12/a-hurst-photography-is-on-instagram

Actually, I have been on Instagram for years. I joined way back when...  when it wasn't a 'social' app as much as it was a photography app.  I used to only post photos of landscapes, and still-lifes, and macros, after I ran them through multiple apps giving them cool filters and HDR effects.  But, then all my friends joined IG, and Facebook bought it out, and now IT IS the new 'Facebook'.  So, I started using it like everyone else does and post things like my dog, my son and his friends, me and my hubby on a date, silly times with my friends, and my dinner/dessert/drink, etc.

My husband kept telling me to post my work since everyone is now on IG.  I resisted for some irrational reason.  I think it had to do with the fact that I didn't like IG being used as it is now.  But, alas, I realized he was right and I was being silly.

So, this weekend I started a new IG account.  This one is just for my work.  In this way, not everyone has to see my day-to-day life, you can just enjoy what I do best, my photography work!

If you're on Instagram get on the App right now and follow me!  My user name is: @AHurstPhotography (easy enough!). Can't wait to see you on 'the gram!'  lol!

Spring Mini Photo Sessions at Bernheim Forest https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2013/12/spring-mini-photo-sessions-at-bernheim-forest Yes, I'm blogging about April shoots in December!  That's how behind I am in blogging!  lol!

This past April I decided to hold my first ever Mini Session event!  It was a great success!  I had some come just for baby photos while others wanted their families pictures taken.  I picked a day that I hoped the magnolias would be in bloom and hit the nail on the head!  Beautiful pink blooms where in abundance!!

It was such a success I'm hoping to hold two days of minis this spring, one at Bernheim and the other possibly at Farmington.  If you're interested, be sure to follow my Facebook page so you'll know when I'm having them.  (or you can email me and I'll send you an email with the details when it gets closer to April!)

Here are a few of my favorites from the day.

And these two are extremely photogenic! So, it was the perfect storm. (best cliche' I could think of! lol!)

Abbey & Tim Louisville Wedding Seelbach Reception https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2013/1/abbey-tim-louisville-wedding-seelbach-reception January in Kentucky is fickle!  We can have days in the 50's or higher, or we can have bitter cold and snow and ice.  We don't really know what to expect from one day to the next so we've learned to live in layers.  That said, due to when Tim's Visa was issued, the wedding had to be in this fickle month. Fortunately this fun and gorgeous couple were delivered decent weather!  It was a little overcast, temperatures in the low 40s, but the girls were good sports and even shed their wraps for a few outdoor photos!  It was a lot of fun to spend the entire day with this group! You can tell they are all very close and a fun-loving bunch! Here's some of my favorite highlights from the day.

Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something Blue... (Something from the UK!)

Getting married really causes one to work up an appetite!

The employees were glad to hand over their job to the newlyweds!  One customer said, "We went to McDonald's after our wedding too, and we've been married 25 years!" To which the bride replied, "Awesome! We've been married 25 minutes!"

Then we went and had some fun at the Waterfront!

The groomsmen thought it would be fun to run through the fountain!

However, the bridesmaids weren't to be outdone!

It's all in the details...

Thank you Abbey and Tim for letting me share your special day!

What Size Should You Print Your Photo? https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2012/12/what-size-should-you-print-your-photo I am constantly asking myself why photo frame manufacturers insist that an 8 x 10 be the standard size frame they sell.  If that's the size you usually purchase you are probably asking yourself why in the world I care.  The problem is all about ratios! Let me explain.

When I take a photo of you with my wonderful Canon 60D (or any DSLR for that matter) the picture is taken at a 2:3 ratio.  WTH? You ask.  For the sake of argument, let's imagine those ratios as actual inches.  So I take your photo and it's taken as a 2 x 3. (or 3 x 2 depending on the way the camera is turned)  If I print it out on a piece of paper that is 2-inches by 3-inches, it will print perfectly!  But now you want it larger.  Well, to keep it in proportion you are going to double both numbers and print it as a 4 x 6, the standard print size.  Now here comes the problem.  You still want it larger.  So we double it again.  If we maintain the ratio it will have to become an 8 x 12.  But wait!  My frame is 8 x 10! So what happens to your photo?  Yep! 2-inches is cut off it!  Here's an example of three common sizes and how the photo will have to be cropped to fit each size:

So, what to do about the fact that 2-inches of your photo is going to be chopped off if you order an 8 x 10.  Well, there are a few solutions.  1. Take that into consideration when choosing your favorite photos and just be ok with the 2-inches you have to crop.  2. Purchase 8 x 12 frames.  I've seen them on occasion at department stores, but they are readily available on Amazon.com.

Occasionally I can enlarge the canvas of your photo.  It really depends on the background.  Studio shots are fairly easy to enlarge.  I just have to basically copy the background into the space that I add.  However, something outside, like the photo above, would be complex due to the surroundings in the photo.

I try to leave enough space around the subjects when I take photos so this is not a huge issue, and I'm definitely not telling you not to order an 8 x 10.  I just want you to be aware that 'not all sizes are created equal!'

So, that made this wedding all the more special to me!

I know her family and friends are dying to see her photos, and since it'll be a few weeks before they are all edited, here's a quick recap of the day.  There are plenty more pictures, but I wanted to share a timeline of sorts.  So here you go!

Abbey & Tim's Engagement at Cherokee Park https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2012/7/abbey-tims-engagement-at-cherokee-park Abbey found me through an internet search and the first time we met was the day of her engagement shoot at Cherokee Park.  We just clicked though, and had a great time, and the shoot went perfectly!  Here's a little about her and the love-of-her-life, Tim.

Tim and Abbey met in college and were friends for about a year before they started dating.  For the past 5 years, they have been having a long-distance relationship.  Abbey in the US and Tim in the UK.  Even the wedding planning has run into some red-tape due to the fact that they are from different countries.  However, they both have a great sense of humor and actually love teasing each other about whose country is better.  So, it was only fitting that we play on that in their photos!

It's always playful banter though!

Abbey and Tim both like to be goofy and both have amazing families. Abbey was a gymnast when she was younger and is known, by her friends, for doing cartwheels and handstands.

Together, they like to bum around, watch movies, go bowling, explore, watch sports, and drink beer! My kind of people! I can't wait to photograph their wedding day in January!

Bridal Shoot for Pure Salon and Spa https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2012/7/bridal-shoot-for-pure-salon-and-spa Last month I had the privilege of doing a shoot for Pure Salon and Spa which is located on Bardstown Road in Louisville, KY.  These girls are beautiful and knew how to work the camera! And, of course, their hair and makeup were flawless!

We did the shoot in the field on my road in Brooks, KY and then moved down the street to Martin Hill Road, and with the permission of one of the land owners there, got some by his barn.  Unfortunately the ground was muddy and the sun came up too quickly, so we didn't get as many as I would have liked there...  However, I did manage to acquire quite a few chigger bites while laying in the grass photographing the girls, hopefully they didn't get too many!

Especially since she was already around 9 weeks when our schedules allowed us to do the session.  If you have a 9 week old, you know they don't sleep nearly as long or as soundly as when they are new.  That's why I recommend that, if possible, we try to get a baby's shoot within the first two weeks.  We did, fortunately, get her to sleep for a little while and the result was this great shot.

I also got a photo of those cute little piggies!

The rest of the session, she was wide awake. Take a look!

Beautiful Inside and Out - 2012 KY High School Senior https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2012/3/beautiful-shadey---2012-ky-high-school-senior As I mentioned in my welcome message, I'm really going to try to post more often. So, to that end, here is a session that I did in the fall that is one of my favorites from last year! This girl could, in all honesty, be a model.  Very little direction did I have to give her as to posing. She was a natural!  And, to boot, she's one of the sweetest teens I know!

Here are a few my favorites from the shoot.  And, BTW, we took these less than a mile from my home.  The neighbor graciously let me use his property and told me I could come again! So, if you like these 'props' let me know when you book your session!

Lovely Black & White {Louisville, KY High School Senior} https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2012/3/lovely-black-white-louisville-ky-high I know, I know! It’s been forever since I wrote a blog post! It’s not that I’ve not been taking photos…  I’ve just been too busy lazy to post them here.  You can always become a fan of my Face Book Page, find me at A. Hurst Photography, to see my latest work though! (hint, hint)

I will admit, this post is a little selfish… there is a possible reward involved. lol!  You see, at the I Heart Faces blog they are now having a monthly contest and the winner this month gets a new Tamron lens.  Oh, how I long to win!! And, it’s fun to see other photographers work and interact with them.

I had two photos in mind for this theme and I’m not convinced that I’ve picked the right photo, but I’m all about High School Seniors right now, so I went with this one.  I love it, just wonder if it’s a little too cliché’ for a contest? Let me know what you think!

D Family Photos at Louisville’s Cherokee Park https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2011/10/d-family-photos-at-louisvilles-cherokee I  had a great time Sunday before last at Louisville’s Cherokee Park where I met the D Family for some fun photos!  They brought their oh-so-cute puppy and I brought along some balloons and we caught some great memories in the two hours we were together.

I’m trying something new and letting you see most of their photos in this short little video.  Notice the pic where they are walking and you’ll see little gold flecks in the air.  There was something from the plants around there blowing in the air and the way they picked up the light made them look like gold!

Looking Forward To Levi https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2011/10/looking-forward-to-levi I had a family session at the beginning of September that I finished editing a few days ago. I did something with this session that I don’t normally do…  I gave them about 40 more photos than my norm!

That sounds like a great thing!  The family gets twice as many photos as most do – but there is a downside to that.  Sometimes that many photos are overwhelming to choose from, and if you don’t have an unlimited budget and want them all, that can get pricey.  And, to narrow it down, can be confusing and frustrating.

All that said, I did it this time, well, because there were just so many good ones that even I couldn’t choose which ones to throw out!

This beautiful family is expecting a new addition any day now and mom wanted some family photos that reflected this time in their life, but weren’t stiff and canned, like most budget retail studios.

Even though the little girl did not really like my camera, I still think these pictures reflect the love and happiness of the family and I look forward to meeting their new bundle of joy in just a matter of days!

I wanted to put a photo of my own son, but every photo that came to mind was one that I had already used on this blog! lol! (which means it’s time for some new pics of him!!!) Melissa’s Senior Session https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2011/6/melissas-senior-session I had the privilege of photographing my friend’s sister a few weeks ago.  She actually graduated this spring, but hadn’t had any senior photos done.

I had never visited the area where she took me for her photos, and so I got to see a great Forest that I didn’t even know existed, and even climb a fire tower for an incredible view!

Additionally, Melissa was on her High School Tennis team and so we made a stop by the courts to get a few shots. And, finally we ended up on her property and her older sister joined us for a couple pictures.

I had a great time and hopefully she’ll enjoy the memories we captured of this time in her life!

Love In The Mist… Sunflare Challenge https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2011/3/love-in-mist-sunflare-challenge It’s been a couple week’s since I’ve joined in the fun, but I thought instantly of this photo when I read the theme for this week’s I ♥ Faces photo challenge is 'Sunflare!'

I had someone comment when they saw this picture that lighting and mist from the falls behind them worked out perfectly for this photo…  nope! I added the flare. I don’t always like flares that are added, sometimes they just don’t look right, but I think it worked with this one!

I took this at a wedding I attended in October. If you’d like to see more shots from it (it was a gorgeous day!) visit my website at  AHurstPhotography.com.

Impromptu Photos – And Another Lesson Learned! https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2011/3/impromptu-photos-and-another-lesson After watching the Daytona 500 with some friends, my friend’s son’s girlfriend (say that three times fast) said I could use them as models for a few shots.  He wasn’t thrilled… but, to give him credit he was getting over a horrible case of strep throat and just felt like sleeping.

It was also too dark.  --Lesson learned: don’t take photos without enough light or with a new flash that you aren’t sure how to use.

The scenery was great, it’s a shame it was too late in the day.  But, the good news is, I’ve promised them a do-over!  Until then, here are a couple that I don’t mind sharing.

Go Team! Phone Photo Challenge! https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2011/2/go-team-phone-photo-challenge This week’s I ♥ Faces Challenge theme is “Phone Photo!” It’s a little different this week because your photo has to have been taken with a cell phone!  I actually really liked the camera on my previous phone which was a Samsung.  This photo was taken with it.  It was just 3MP, but I thought it took pretty clear photos. (However, it didn’t have a flash so it was natural light or no photo!) My newer phone is also a 3MP…  but I haven’t been as impressed with the photos I’ve gotten from it.

Anyway, I didn’t know if my good (Canon) camera would be allowed at the football game I went to with my guys this past fall, so I didn’t take it.  I kind of regretted it after the game when my son wanted to wait for the players to come around to congratulate them on their win.  However, I whipped out my cell and snapped a couple shots anyway, and this one -- I was pleasantly surprised with!!

RED-Faced! https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2011/2/red-faced I finally have time to link up again in this week’s I ♥ Faces photo challenge and the theme is RED!  I have no shortage of red photos because my husband and son’s favorite college team’s colors are red and black and they are die-hard fans, usually decked out in those colors every game.

I posted a photo of them at the basketball game a few weeks ago, but today I decided to use a photo from one of the football games I went to with them.  It was a hard decision…  I actually put a different photo on here when I was writing this post because it had more red (it was a close-up and he still had on a red hoodie) but I just love this photo, so at the last minute I switched to it. I hope you like it too!

Reflecting On My Old Furry Friend – Pets Challenge! https://www.ahurstphotography.com/blog/2010/12/reflecting-on-my-old-furry-friend-pets

This week’s I ♥ Hearts challenge is ‘Pets’, and I have no shortage of pet pics! My dogs are usually declared my models because, unlike my human family, they don’t complain about it! I usually wind up publishing a photo of my little Jack Russell, just because he’s so cute and animated, but this time I went with one of my Lab.

I love this pic, not just because of the reflection, but because that’s his normal expression - it’s just real.
This is Spanky and Spanky has been an incredible dog! I say ‘has been’ because Spanky will be 11 at the end of this month and so probably won’t be with us for many more years.

We originally purchased a female Labrador puppy from a relative.  My husband didn’t want a dog, but I really wanted my son, who was an only child, to have something to love and be responsible for. So hubby got a new truck and agreed to let me get a dog.  The female, Sassy, died of a congenital defect after we’d only had her a couple months.  We were heartbroke. Ironically, my husband, most of all! So,he insisted we go find another Lab two nights later.  We ended up with Spanky.  Spanky was the friskier pup of the two we looked at and that’s why my husband wanted him.  But a frisky Lab is A LOT of work!

Some of the antics of his puppyhood included dragging my son by his hoodie through the snow, tearing up every dish towel and pillowslip in the house, ripping my wrap-around skirt off of me, and he even dug through my vinyl floor when I left him in the bathroom all day!

It may sound like he was horrible, but he was just a Lab puppy. If you’ve ever had one, or seen Marley and Me, you know how rambunctious they can be, but you also know how they eventually calm down and are the best dogs you can have.

Spanky would never hurt anyone, he even cowers to my much smaller Jack Russell! His entire body seems to smile when you take him for a walk, and he ‘talks’ when you rub behind his ears. He sleeps with my son every night, even though he can barely make it up the steps any more; and the only real drawback to having him (since he calmed down) has been the dog hair.  If I could find a way to keep Labs from shedding, I’d have a more of them!

Thank you Spanky for being such a great friend! We hope to keep you happy and pain free for as long as you can remain with us!
